Rowan's Tonsillectomy/Adenoidectomy/Ear Tubes

On July 14th, Rowan had to get his tonsils and adenoids out, just like Hayden did two months ago, and he also got ear tubes put in. Just like Hayden, he was brave going in to surgery (although he hated putting on the hospital gown), and allergic to the codeine (red, puffy face). We tried hydrocodone instead, but he was slightly allergic to that, too (rash). He had a Spiderman glove (IV) and Ironman Boot (blood pressure cuff). He also loved playing with the train set in the play room when he spent the night at the hospital. However, just like Hayden, he was in pain, couldn't sleep or eat or drink, and cried constantly for about ten days straight. It was a good reminder for me of what it will be like in a month when baby Nadia comes. I'm sooo glad that Rowan is feeling better, and one of the first things he wanted to do when he started feeling better was to paint the dinosaurs that JJ & PopPop got Hayden for his birthday. Hayden was nice enough to share with his little brother. I love those boys, and I'm so glad that both of them can sleep better at night, since they don't have their huge tonsils and adenoids blocking their airways.

Swim Lessons

Hayden has been in two classes of swim lessons at the Y this summer. Previously, both my boys were pretty good at swimming around the pool in their life vest or Spiderman life vest suit on(Rowan). During his first swim class, Hayden wore a floaty around his waist, but still did pretty good. When I went to watch his first day in his second swim class, Hayden started out swimming holding on to flotation devices, but then the coach said to just swim, and I nearly yelled at the coach that "Hayden can't swim, he doesn't have his a floaty on!", but I figured I didn't have to because Hayden would surely yell that to him. However, I was shocked when Hayden just took off swimming. I still need to work on him swimming with his face in the water, but he does manage to stay afloat, otherwise. I'm so proud of my little turtle.

Hayden's 5th Birthday Party

I can't believe my baby is 5 years old! Where has the time gone? For his birthday, we had a Mario Brothers themed party at the YMCA in Cedar Park. First, the kids (and adults, too) played on the gymnastics equipment for an hour. Technically, it was supposed to be children only, but my dad is the one who got the party rolling for the adults. If I wasn't pregnant, I probably would have played, too. Who knows, maybe the trampoline would have been good for me? Next, everyone headed to the party room where we ate pizza and got dressed up as Mario, Luigi, Toad, Yoshi, or Princess Peach (Aaron was Wario) and took pictures. My mom made the amazing face cut-out stands that you see in these pics. She also helped me with the Yoshi bags, square, question-mark boxes filled with chocolate, gold coins and moustaches. I made the different hats (the girls decorated their own Princess Peach hats), and Hayden filled his pinata. Rowan helped me make the Toad cupcakes (I let him eat some M&Ms). After pictures, we did the pinata, opened presents, and then ate cake. It was a good party that was over way too quick. I will do a separate post all about Hayden. We sure do love him! He's turning five and still got game, saving the princess is his claim to fame!!
